AiM Artisan Trail Change of Venue Announced

Earlier this month Arts in McNairy announced the first annual Artisan Trail scheduled for March 17, 2007. The event will proceed as planned with one minor change. Due to a scheduling conflict with the Eastview Community Center, the trail head has been moved to the Bethel Springs Community Center at 40 South Parkway in Bethel Springs, TN. The trail itself will remain unchanged with all dates, times and participating artists remaining as previously announced.

We invite everyone to join this fascinating tour of McNairy County’s arts community from 10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. March 17, 2007 beginning in historic Bethel Springs, TN. Maps for the entire trail and refreshments will be available at the Bethel Springs location along with displays and demonstrations by McNairy County artists. For more information on the AiM Artisan Trail call 731-645-3850 or 731-610-1365.

Artisan Trail Debuts
March 2007
With dozens of folk and fine artists working in McNairy County, the community has earned a regional reputation as a rural destination for heritage and cultural tourists. Visitors and residents alike will soon have one more opportunity to savor local cultural offerings with a Spring tour of artist’s studios and shops. The tour, which has been dubbed the AiM Artisan Trail, is unique in that participants are offered a rare glimpse into the artists’ creative process by visiting them in the places where they produce most of their work. Traditional broom makers, potters, blacksmiths, metal sculptors, quilters, weavers and other artisans, will open their studios and shops to the public between 10:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. on Sat. March 17.

In addition to these artists, many others will have their work for show or sale at the Eastview Civic Center at the junction of Hwy 45 South and Hwy 57. The Eastview location will serve as a “trail head” with demonstrations, live entertainment and refreshments provided by the Eastview Ruritan Club. Driving directions and maps showing the location of the artists who are opening their doors to the public will also be available at Eastview and all other stops along the trail. Maps will also be availble for downloading on this Blog in early March. Another interesting stop on the tour will be the UTM McNairy/Selmer Center where an art show featuring the works of UTM faculty members will be on display. The exhibit is being coordinated by AiM Visual Arts Chair and UTM Selmer faculty member, George Souders. This show is one of the most highly anticipated of several exhibits planned for 2007. Currently on exhibit, through the month of February are the works of master wood turner, Patricia Fischer.

Local artists interested in participating in the tour are invited to submit an application and representative samples of their work to the jury on February 19, 2007 between 4:00-5:30 p.m. at the UTM center. “While the trail concept is not new,” commented Dr. Ron Bell, AiM Heritage and Culture Chair, “We believe this is the first event of its type in West Tennessee. It will be a fun and educational event great for the whole family. We hope to get people off the highways and driving through some of our outlying areas. If they do, we think they will be amazed at the diversity of our local art community. It’s good exposure for the artists and good business for the county.” For more information on the AiM Artisan Trail call 731-645-3850 or 731-610-1365.

The Princess
& the Pea
Arts in McNairy's third theatre offering of the season and the first for 2007 will be the children's production of The Princess and the Pea. Auditions for all school aged children are being held at the Selmer Civic Center on Feb. 26 and 27 from 6:00-8:00 PM. The performance dates are April 13, 14 & 15. Rehearsal schedules will be available at the auditions. No theatre experience is required and there are roles for 30-35 children. The play is being co-directed by theatre veterans Brad and Jan Woolworth who invite all area children to get involved with AiM's Little Theatre Players. The play is based on the well known children's fairy tale and provides an excellent opportunity for the first time thespian. Cast and audiences alike are sure to enjoy this delightful theatre adaptation of The Princess and the Pea.
