Call to Artists

Project: 20’x100’ local musical heritage themed outdoor mural
Location: Downtown Selmer, Tennessee
Deadline: January 14, 2011
Budget: $15,000
Eligibility: Tennessee visual artists

Project Overview
Arts in McNairy, the arts council of McNairy County TN, is seeking proposals for an approximately 20’x100’, outdoor, mural as part of an ongoing public art program in downtown Selmer, TN. Previous project installations are shown above. The mural will become part of a downtown walking trail honoring the rich musical heritage of McNairy County TN and must reflect that theme.

Timeline
Deadline for proposal submission is January 14, 2011. Muralist may begin work no earlier than July 1, 2011 and the project must be completed by June 1, 2012. Dedication and unveiling will be in conjunction with the 2012 Rockabilly Highway Revival on the second weekend in June. The artist selected for the project will be required to attend.

Submission Guidelines
All proposal submissions must include: 1) Artist’s resume and current contact information; 2) List of professional references; 3) A one to two page letter detailing the artist’s mural concept and interest in the project; 4) A CD with high resolution JPG files that are representative of the artist’s work; 5) A list of explanatory notes correlated by number with each submitted image; 6) A cost estimate for completion of the project not to exceed the budgeted $15,000; 7) Optional supplemental materials or preliminary sketches; 8) A self addressed, postage paid, envelope for the return of all submitted materials (only if return is required). Selection Criteria
Tennessee artists will be given first consideration. An ad hoc committee composed of members of the Arts in McNairy visual arts; heritage and culture committees and community representatives will select an artist to complete the project. Selection will be based in part on: 1) Quality and compatibility of submitted sample works with the project; 2) Completeness of requested submission materials; 3) Originality of overall concept; 4) Appropriateness of the work for general audiences and relevance of subject to the musical heritage theme; 5) Estimated cost of the project; 6) Proven ability of the artist, by references, to complete projects on time and within budget.

Terms
Arts in McNairy will accept no responsibility for loss of or damage to submitted materials. All costs incurred during the submission process will be absorbed by respondents. Artists will agree to all terms of this call as well as all other contractual terms set forth by Arts in McNairy for the project herein described. The artist will further agree to accept lump sum payment based on their proposal bid on completion of the project. Travel expenses, rental fees, shipping and material costs, installation fees and all other miscellaneous fees should be included in the budget as these will not otherwise be considered.
